Pruning Apples

Pruning allows you to keep balance on the growth of your tree. It all depends the way and the time you prune the trees. Pruning apples is the similar effect as pruning other sort of trees. So, if you want your apple tree to produce good amount of fruit you need to make sure to do the pruning in an appropriate time.

For instance pruning apples during winter seasons will allow your apple tree to grow larger. And if you prune them during the summer it will make the apple tree grow less. However, both are not the wrong times to do it. Maybe you want the apple tree to grow bigger, and then you should do the pruning during winter. Or you probably happy with the size and you don’t want it to be any bigger than its current size, then you should do the pruning during the summer seasons.

So, how is pruning apples done?

If your apple tree is one year old, then you should do the pruning right after planting. You do this buy just cutting of the top half of the trunk.

If the tree is two years old, then you should do the pruning between December and February. You should only prune the newly developed branches rather than pruning the trunk of the tree.

Basically, whenever you are pruning the apple tree, you need to prune the newer branches rather than the old ones. If you prune the old one, you will damage the tree and also can kill it.
